Grow Wild... Little Child
Rhey and I decided to keep our baby’s gender a surprise, which kicked off the classic dilemma: What colors do we even use for the nursery?! Cue the predictable suggestions—yellow, green, or grey. And let me tell you, this mama was having none of that.
I’ve always had a soft spot for succulents and cactuses (I mean, obsessed), so that quickly became the “theme” I loosely built the nursery around. But it definitely took me a little while to land on the exact color palette. Rhey and I both love bright, happy vibes, so I knew I wanted something colorful, just not neon or over-the-top.
Then one day at TJ Maxx (bless that place), we found this piece of art that instantly clicked—it had all the colors and vibes I didn’t even realize I was searching for. That’s when it all started to come together. Convincing Rhey to be on board with mauves? Not the easiest part. But in a true act of marital compromise, I let him have the final say on our baby names, and in return, he let me go wild with the nursery decor. Fair trade if you ask me!
We ended up choosing a groovy palette of mustard, mauve, white, and natural wood. The white and wood accents were probably the smartest decision we made—they’re timeless and make it so easy to switch things up later. If we wanted to turn the room more “boyish” down the road, it would be super easy to swap out the art and bedding for something like dinosaurs or bold blues.
We took the same approach with paint—kept the walls neutral and let the fun live in the details: the art, bedding, and accessories. That way, no matter what this baby turned out to be (or how their interests grow), the room could evolve right along with them.
DO THIS - Something a little extra we grabbed from the hospital that was so special was my last contraction paperwork that has the moment we gave birth, now we have that framed, and I'll get to cherish it forever!
